Glenview Heights is a proposal for self-sufficient housing development on the North Eastern edge of Cairns. Located amongst regenerated rainforest, the proposal included 9 housing lots with views across the rainforest canopy and out to the Great Barrier Reef.
The proposed houses include lightweight, stepped pavilions that minimise their impact on the site and maximise natural ventilation and exposure to views. Large roof overhangs over decks promote interaction with the surrounding forest. Roof forms are designed to incorporate solar panels, with each house being linked to a central grid and battery store. The houses were to be self-sufficient for water and waste disposal, incorporating rainwater tanks and bio-septic tanks.
