The Tully Multi-purpose Centre is a community facility which was jointly funded by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, Queensland Sport and Recreation and Education Queensland and is located on the Tully High School site.
The building is designed to operate in three main modes:
— Sports Mode – including an indoor court and two external courts
— Performance Mode – with the capacity to seat approximately 800 people using retractable seating
— Banquet Mode – with tabled seating for up to 600 people.
The air-conditioning, acoustic and lighting systems were designed to suit each different mode. The building is set on a raised platform to avoid flooding and utilised tilt up panels to try to get the building enclosed as quickly as possible during construction. The facade is designed to allude to the many waterfalls and natural colours of local region.
Alanna Coburn was the Project Leader for the design, documentation and construction phase services for this project whilst working for SutersPGD.
